You have six basic emotions, but most people don’t even know how to express one.
Fear
Anger
Joy
Sadness
Disgust
Surprise
And we don’t talk about them—ESPECIALLY at work.
We’re not just doing work on a daily basis, we’re feeling our way through it.
The problem is most of us don’t know how to talk about the emotions we bring into the business.
And then we’re reactive, distracted, irritated, or even elated about something, but acting like it doesn’t apply to the work we’re doing and how we do it.
I start most meetings and sessions asking a simple question that opens the floor for the human feelings and realities we all bring in.
What is your primary emotion?
I usually have a feeling wheel on-hand like the one above to help name them too.
